Can Supplements Help or Harm? The Question Most People Never Ask....

A few years ago, if someone told me they were taking supplements, I would assume they were trying to improve their health.

Today, I'm not so sure. Because now I have seen both sides.....the Good and the Harm.

Recently, a patient, Chandra came to see me. He was totally enthusiastic about his health.

He said he had started taking several mushroom-based supplements after watching videos online.

The claims sounded very impressive....better immunity, better energy and better brain function.

A few months later, his blood tests showed altered liver function.

Was the supplement definitely responsible?

Not necessarily. But it raised an important question.....

What exactly was he taking? How much? Was it tested? Was it pure? Was it even necessary?

Then there was Leela. She played safe and wanted to improve her health naturally.

A friend recommended a supplement purchased online....

No doctor's advice. No review of ingredients. No understanding of what was inside.

Within days, Leela developed nausea, bloating, and diarrhea.

Again, the question wasn't whether supplements are bad.

The question was... was this the right supplement for the right person at the right time?

And then there was Venkat....A young man determined to build muscle. He was taking multiple bodybuilding supplements...protein powders, pre-workouts,

fat burners, and muscle boosters.

When I asked Venkat, why he needed all of them, he smiled.

"Everyone at the gym takes them."

That answer revealed something important to me.....

Many people aren't taking supplements because they need them.

They're taking them because everyone else is.

And that is where most problems begin.

Let me be clear.....I am not against Supplements....

Supplements are not evil. In fact, some can be extremely useful....

Vitamin B12 deficiency? Supplementation can help.

Vitamin D deficiency? Supplementation can help.

Protein deficiency? Supplementation can help.

Specific medical conditions? Supplements can play an important role.

The problem isn't supplements. The problem is blind supplementation.

Some people treat supplements like insurance...The more, the merrier !

The body doesn't work that way...

every tablet, powder, capsule, or herb enters a complex biological system....

The liver processes it. The kidneys process it.

The body responds to it...

And "natural" does not automatically mean safe.

Poison ivy is natural. Tobacco is natural.

Many Toxic substances are natural. Nature and safety are not the same thing.

Over the years, I've developed a simple framework....

Before taking any supplement, ask yourself...

1. Why am I taking this?

Do I have a deficiency?

A medical need?

Or am I simply following a trend?

2. What problem am I trying to solve?

Energy?

Weight loss?

Muscle gain?

Better sleep?

Can lifestyle changes address the root cause first?

3. Is there evidence?

Not influencer evidence.

Not marketing evidence.

Actual evidence.

4. Who recommended it?

A qualified healthcare professional?

Or a stranger on the internet?

5. What are the risks?

Every intervention has benefits and risks.

Know both.

The deeper lesson isn't about supplements.

It's about responsibility...

Most people want a shortcut to their health...a capsule....a powder....a magic solution.

But health is rarely built that way.

The foundations still matter....sleep, movement, nutrition, stress management,

relationships, and purpose.

Supplements may support health. But they cannot replace it.

So the next time you see a miracle supplement promising miracle results, pause...ask questions....think critically and

make informed decisions.

Because the goal isn't to take more supplements....The goal is to become healthier.

And those are not always the same thing.

🌿 Reset Body, Mind, Transform Life.

Before taking a supplement, don't ask..

"Does everyone take this?"

Ask... "Do I actually need this?"
