🇳🇵 Sastry on Today: Nepal, Corruption and a Revolution — A Timeless Saga
Nepal, that beautiful Himalayan neighbour of ours, often looks serene from afar — snow peaks, prayer flags, monks in maroon robes.
But scratch beneath the postcard, and you find the same old human play: corruption, power games, and the occasional revolution to sweep the dust under the carpet.
It is almost as if Nepal has mastered the art of living in two worlds at once — the timeless rhythm of the Himalayas, and the restless chaos of politics.
Every few years, the people rise, slogans fill the air, and leaders are toppled.
For a while, the streets buzz with hope.
But soon, the old habits return, like smoke curling back into the kitchen after being chased out of the window.
Sastry, with his trademark grin, observes:
“Corruption is like the momo chutney — no matter who cooks, it clings to the lips.”
Yet, there’s a strange comfort in this cycle.
Revolutions remind us that the people’s patience has limits.
Corruption reminds us that human greed has no limits. And Nepal, like the rest of the world, continues to walk the tightrope between despair and hope.
In truth, every nation is a mirror of this saga.
Today it is Nepal; tomorrow, it is our world. Revolutions are not about overthrowing governments — they are about overthrowing the corruption within ourselves.
As the Himalayas remind us silently: governments come and go, but truth and justice are the only peaks that endure.
