The Child Who Didn’t Need Therapy
Monika and Harsh walked in with everything people chase.....money, stability, and a polished life...
And yet…
“Doctor… no peace of mind.”
“Sleep is gone.”
“Mind is always running…”
I have stopped being surprised these days. Because today… suffering doesn’t come from lack...It comes from overflow, a abundance...
They spoke....targets, appraisals, future plans, schooling their son, investments and promotions....
Every sentence… was about a tomorrow, a future that hasn’t arrived....
And then I saw him....Their cute son, about 5 years...
Sitting quietly on the floor...holding a small dog toy.
He wasn’t distracted. He wasn’t seeking attention or restless, but totally absorbed...carresing the dog toy's ears.....
Smiling to himself. Speaking softly to it as if it were alive.
No urgency. No anxiety. No “what next.”
Just… this.....presence in the moment...
I interrupted them.
“Look at your son.”
They glanced. Smiled faintly.
“He’s playing.”
“No,” I said.
“He’s doing something you’ve forgotten how to do.”
Silence...
“You came to me for peace of mind.”
“But look carefully…”
“He doesn’t have it.”
They frowned.
“He has no peace of mind…”
“…because he has no disturbed mind.”
The words hit them....
“You both are not suffering because life is hard.”
“You are suffering because your mind is never here.”
“Your body is sitting in this room…”
“But your mind is in next year’s EMI, next promotion, next fear…”
“And when you occasionally come back to the present…”
“You bring all that noise with you.”
The boy laughed. A pure, effortless laugh....
Not because life was perfect. But because… he wasn’t somewhere else.
“You want peace?” I asked quietly.
“Then understand this...…”
Peace is not lost. It is abandoned....Every time you leave the present…you walk away from it...
“You are not tired because you work hard.”
“You are tired because your mind never rests where your life actually is.”
I leaned back...
“No medicine will fix this.”
“No supplement will fix this.”
“No external success will fix this.”
“Because the problem is not your life.”
“The problem is… you are never inside it, Never in the Present.”
Your child is not happier because his life is simpler.
He is happier because he hasn’t learnt to escape it yet...
The Reflection..
We don’t lose peace because life is hard.
We lose it because we are never there where life is happening.
You don’t need a new life to feel peace.
You need to stop leaving the one you’re already living.
