“Doctor, I Eat Less Than Before. Then Why Am I Gaining Weight?”
Siddesh, a patient in his late 50s, looked genuinely frustrated and tired.
"Doctor, when I was 25, I could eat anything."
Siddesh laughed.
"Three dosas, biryani, sweets... nothing happened."
Then his smile faded.
"Now I just look at food and gain weight."
I've heard different versions of this conversation hundreds of times.
It reveals one of the biggest misunderstandings about weight gain.
Most people think..Weight gain is a willpower problem. But often...it is a biology problem.
Many changes happens in our body as we age, almost invisibly....The body slowly becomes less responsive to insulin.
In medical terms, insulin sensitivity decreases and insulin resistance increases..
To compensate, the body starts producing more insulin.
And that's where the story becomes different.
Insulin is not just a blood sugar hormone. It is also a storage hormone.
Higher insulin levels make it easier to store fat, gain weight, feel hungry sooner, experience cravings and energy fluctuates.
Then people usually blame themselves...
"Maybe I have no discipline."
"Maybe my metabolism is broken."
"Maybe I'm getting old."
But often the body is simply responding to years of accumulated signals of stress, poor sleep, overeating, constant snacking, lack of movement, and loss of muscle mass.
The body isn't betraying you. It's adapting to your lifestyle.
And that is when many people make things worse..
The moment weight increases, they declare war on their body...extreme diets, endless cardio, starvation and punishing workouts.
For a few weeks, results appear...
Then the body fights back. Fatigue increases, hunger increases, motivation disappears, and weight returns.
The goal is not to punish the body. The goal is to help it become responsive again.
That changes everything, right?
Instead of asking
"How do I lose weight fast?"
Ask.."How do I improve my body's response to food?"
The answer is surprisingly simple....
- Reduce excessive refined carbohydrates.
- Increase protein intake.
- Include healthy fats.
- Build and preserve muscle.
- Move consistently.
-Sleep better.
-Relax deeper.
And importantly...don't turn exercise into punishment.
Many people think... More exercise = more weight loss.
Not always.
When the body is already stressed and exhausted, excessive training can sometimes increase recovery demands and make consistency harder.
The magic is usually found in sustainable movement, regular walking, strength training and routines that can be repeated for years.
Health is not built in 30 days.It is built through thousands of ordinary days.
And that's the lesson Modern Wellness often misses....
The goal is not simply losing weight. The goal is creating a body that works with you instead of against you...
So if you're gaining weight despite "eating less"...don't immediately ask...
"What's wrong with me?"
Ask..."What signals has my body been receiving for the last 10 years?"
Because ..the solution isn't found in eating less. It is found in helping the body become responsive again.
And that is where the Real Transformation begins.
