Your Internal Clock Is Set by Your Purpose, Not Your Alarm
My Internal Clock Was Set 25 Years Ago
The most important clock in your life isn't the one on your wall. It's the one Inside You, yes?
Every morning, I reach the hospital a little earlier than most people.
A few days ago, as I parked my car, our security guard smiled and said,
"Sir, you always come so early. We could set our clock by you!"
We both laughed...
As I walked toward my clinic, his words stayed in my mind.
Perhaps he was right. Not because my watch was accurate. But because my internal clock had been set a long time ago....about twenty-five years ago....
It wasn't set by Time. It was set by Purpose.
When I was younger, I asked myself a question that quietly changed my life...
WHY?
WHY did I want to become a doctor?
WHY should I stay healthy?
WHY should I exercise when no one is watching?
WHY save money instead of spending it?
WHY buy a farm instead of another apartment?
WHY keep learning?
WHY write every week?
I didn't realise it then, but every answer was slowly programming an Internal clock.......One that would wake me long before the alarm ever could.
Many people tell me,
"Doctor, I know I should exercise."
"I know I should lose weight."
"I know I should sleep earlier."
Knowledge isn't usually the problem.
The puzzle is this...Why do some people stay consistent while others keep starting over and over again?
I think it's not because they have stronger willpower.
I think it's because they have a stronger "WHY."
As the poet Rumi wrote,
"When you know your Why, the How becomes easier."
When your "why" is powerful enough...
The alarm clock becomes less important. Because Purpose wakes you up before the alarm does.
Your Why quietly shapes your choices...
If your goal is simply to lose five kilograms...the morning walk will feel like work.
But if your Purpose is to stay healthy enough to build the Life you dream of...the same walk begins to feel very different.
If reading is only about finishing a book...you might stop halfway.
If reading is part of becoming the person you want to be...You will keep reading more..
If saving money is only about sacrifice...it feels restrictive.
If it's about creating freedom for your future...It becomes meaningful.
The habit hasn't changed...The WHY has.
Your "Why" is like the roots of a tree..
People admire the Fruits...good health, successful career, strong relationships, financial freedom and Inner peace.
But very few notice the Roots quietly feeding them every single day...
Your WHY is those Roots....it silently nourishes every decision you make...
When your roots are strong, your daily actions no longer feel forced. They become a natural expression of the Life you're trying to grow.
Your Why dictates your How.
And over time, your How shapes your Life.
Every healthy life is built twice...once in the mind....then in daily actions.
That's why I encourage my patients not to begin with diet charts or exercise plans.
I begin with a different question...
"What kind of life are you trying to build?"
Because that answer quietly shapes almost everything that follows... food you choose, exercise you do, money you save, relationships you nurture, books you read, the work you love and everything.
Purpose doesn't just influence a few decisions. It becomes the Compass for your entire Life.
Years later, I still arrive early. Not because I force myself to. But because my internal clock remembers something my watch cannot.
It remembers WHY.
Purpose quietly influences our health.
-It shapes the food we choose.
-The way we move our bodies.
-The way we think.
-The way we spend our money.
-The relationships we nurture.
-The work we do.
-The Life we create.
Real discipline isn't about forcing yourself to do difficult things.
It is about building a life where your Why makes those things worth doing.
That is how habits become sustainable.
That is how ordinary days become meaningful.
And that is Freedom.
Before you ask,
"How do I become more disciplined?"
Try asking a different question.
"What is the 'Why' that my future deserves?"
Because once your internal clock is set...the hands of your watch simply follow.
Health and Life isn't built by perfect habits.
It's built by meaningful Purpose.
Find your WHY. The HOW will begin to follow🌿
