🌾 From Ponmanipudi to Silicon Valley? Saami’s Dream with Sridhar Vembu
The evening sun had painted Ponmanipudi in soft gold.
Cows mooed, the crickets had just begun their orchestra, and Sundarammal sat on the porch, shelling groundnuts into a brass plate.
Her eyes fell on little Saami.
He was sitting unusually quiet — no catapult, no whistling, no chasing butterflies.
Just sitting on the step, chin in hand, lost in a world far beyond Ponmanipudi.
“Kanna…” Sundarammal called softly.
No answer.
“Kanna…?” she tried again, her voice carrying both love and a little worry.
This time Saami blinked, looked up, and sighed dramatically.
“Paati… do you know Sridhar Vembu?”
Sundarammal frowned.
“Vembu? That old man who sells tender coconuts near Rajanthira bus stand?”
Saami burst into laughter.
“Aiyyo paati! Not that Vembu!
This Vembu is different.
He built a multimillion empire from Theni.
A big company called Zoho… where thousands work.
Appa showed me on his cellphone.
Imagine paati… from a small town, he went on to beat all those big city fellows with coat and tie!”
Sundarammal raised her eyebrows.
“Appaadaa… so what are you planning now, kanna? You want to become another Vembu?”
Saami’s eyes sparkled.
He stood up, puffed his little chest, and declared,
“Why not paati? If Vembu can build from Theni… then Saami can build from Ponmanipudi! My company will be called ‘SaamiSoft’.
All computers in the world will run on my ideas.
And then… I’ll buy everyone in Ponmanipudi free buttermilk!”
Sundarammal chuckled, shaking her head, hiding a smile.
“Just remember, kanna… before building empires, finish your maths homework.”
Saami groaned, “Even Vembu wouldn’t have liked homework, paati!”
And the village evening dissolved into laughter, groundnuts, and one small boy’s giant dream.
✨ Sometimes, greatness begins not in air-conditioned offices, but in a child’s innocent imagination — under the golden sky of a village like Ponmanipudi.
